The starting point and inspiration for Eating Rice was Asian cuisine and food culture. The artists of Atelier de Kunstvlieg in The Hague collaborated with Baby Reni for an extended period of time. To get inspiration for their collaborative project, the artists took a walk in the Asian neighborhood in The Hague. Although the neighborhood is called Chinatown, it is a place where many different Asian food cultures come together. Soon the idea arose to bring different cultures together within this project, and get to know each other better through these cultures.

In this exhibition, the dining table is the object that connects: a place where everyone can come together and share stories. By working from everyday rituals and objects, the artists hope to make the visitors look more consciously at their surroundings and belongings, in order to give them new meaning.

In a real dining room, different points of view are brought together, and the artists each show their story in their own way: in textiles, ceramics and sculptures. Around the same theme there are also works by other artists whose work fits the expo. Think zines, engraved chef’s knives and ceramic dumplings – by Chieri Higa, Milena Anna Bouma, Bryan Zhang and Rambler Studios, among others.
